Research Software Engineer
We are offering a position for a Research Software Engineer
Tasks will focus on automating interfaces to improve accessibility, checking consistency and optimizing the code (OpenCL, CUDA), fixing and updating legacy code, and transferring legacy Windows libraries to Linux, i.e. transfer VC++ libraries to GNU C++. In later stages, you will also provide support to software users in our research group and adjust the image analysis pipelines to their specific application.
The Zerial group investigates endocytosis - from its molecular mechanisms to implications in cell and tissue organization. Our interests range from the assembly and functional characterization of the endosomal fusion machinery to the establishment of hepatocyte cell polarity and liver tissue structure and function. Our group uses a unique interdisciplinary approach combining biochemical and biophysical methods with advanced light microscopy, cell biology and computer-aided three-dimensional tissue reconstruction. As part of the Zerial group, you will join a highly interdisciplinary, international and collaborative team of more than 20 researchers from more than ten different countries. English is our working language.
- Applicants should hold an M.Sc. degree or PhD in Computer Science, Scientific Computing, Software Engineering, Physics, or related areas.
- Excellent programming skills are required. Our source code is written in C++, but we also develop in Java. We develop our software for Windows and Linux.
- Excellent communication skills in English are expected, in order to work with an interdisciplinary team of cell biologists, physicists, chemists and computer scientists in a competitive international environment.
- Experience with CUDA and/or OpenCL, OpenGL is an advantage. Proficiency with developer tools such as git, Jenkins or Travis, automated test suits, etc. is also valued.
- Experience in a life science environment is a plus.
The full-time or part-time position is available immediately for an initial period of 2 years with the possibility of extension. Salary and social benefits will be in accordance with the regulations of the German TVöD Bund (salary agreement for public service employees) up to salary group E13.
